With the diminishing reserve of oil, exploration of efficient utilization of natural gas and coal via synthesis gas (syngas) becomes increasingly important and draws wide attention. A variety of catalysts and catalytic processes have been developed. However, the selectivity to desired products remains a great challenge to date. In this paper, we present the fundamental understandings of the roles of nanocatalysis playing in selective conversion of syngas and methane.
