India is a highly populated country and ranks second in the world after China with a capacity of 1.2 billion.Along with population growth, diet diversification and urbanization, induced by economic reforms impart excessive pressure on food demand of the country.However, the land is limited to overcome this pressure and the situation get worsen due to occasional failure of Indian monsoon and occurrence of severe drought events.Drought is a natural phenomenon and it has a significant impact on economy, agriculture and environment of the country.In India, where agriculture is mainly dependent on monsoon rainfall, had experienced severe droughts in the recent past.
