Photonic crystals are a class of materials that possesses spatially periodical dielectric constant, which can strongly modulate electromagnetic waves and drive a photonic stop-band.The propagation of light during the stop-band is forbidden.When wavelength of light is in visible range, the diffracted color will be seen.Because it is driven from physical microstructure, the color is called structural color material.[1] Due to this distinct function in manipulation of photons, the structural color material, especially those with variable properties, have found important applications in numerous optical fields such as optical fibers, lasers, displays, solar cells and so on.Moreover, their applications as sensors to detect temnperature, pressure, ions, biomolecules and chemicals have also attracted increasingly attention.We have developed a series of the structural color materials for sensor applications.[2] In this talk, our recent research resuits about structural color materials for sensing will be introduced.[3-6]
