Restructuring was revealed in fundamental studies of surface science.Surfaces of metal catalysts could be restructured under different conditions.One well-known example is faceting of Pt(110) during CO oxidationl0-12 Compared to metal catalysts, early transition metal oxides AOm (A is the metal) are equivalently important components of heterogeneous catalysts.Likely, their valence states can be tuned to adapt a reaction environment or even perform a complete phase transition under reaction conditions.
