Microencapsulation is a method to enclose and isolate core material in solid shell from direct contact of environmental factors. Following this approach, many species can be encapsulated in various suitable shells to achieve desired functions, which make microencapsulation a promising trend in exploring novel synthetic materials. In this study, various novel microencapsulation methods developed in my group are introduced. Several materials systems with self-healing, self-healing & self-cleaning, self-lubricating & wear-resistant, and energy saving functions are demonstrated as well as their potential engineering applications.
