The challenge of controlling the construction and the function of hierarchical architectures over multiple length scales is a current theme at the frontier of research into soft matter. We have extensively exploited the use of electrostatic interactions in our ionic self-assembly (ISA) route over the last decade in pursuit of such control.[1] We have recently turned our attention to the design and synthesis of electroactive materials,[2] exploring hierarchical construction and function in these functional materials.
