Plant hormons regulate cellular processes in targeted cells locally and, moved to other locations,in other functional parts of the plant. They also determine the formation of flowers, stems, leaves, the shedding of leaves, and the development and ripening of fruit.Unfortunately, the improper use of plant hormons would cause serious threats to human health even at trace level and may lead to the overproduction of reactive oxygen species(ROS).ROS are highly reactive and toxic and cause damage to proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and DNA which ultimately results in oxidative stress.Catalase,as one of the most important components of the antioxidant systems, would counteract the stress-induced ROS accumulation with other enzymes and non-enzymatic low molecular metabolites. It serves to protect the cell from the toxic effects by catalyzing hydrogen peroxide decomposition into molecular oxygen and water without the production of free radicals. The importance of catalase in scavenging ROS generated under stress conditions has also been proven. However,a decrease in catalase activity is frequently observed under some stress conditions. In terms of these findings, the effect of plant hormons can be explored by investigating their interactions between plant hormons and catalase and the activity alternation of catalase.Analysis of catalase interaction with plant hormons could also help to design novel sensors to screen plant hormons.
