Deutrtium(D)and tritium(T)have long been touted as promising fuels for fusion power production because of their easily burning and available higher energy producing.Given that fusion reactor will consume tritium at a very large rate of 55.6kg/1GW per full power year operation, and tritium inventory in DEMO is about 10kg level. Thus, tritium self-sufficiency and potential public safety issues have been regarded as the basic stone standing in the way to achieve fusion energy. The crucial question is whether fusion reactor can achieve tritium self-sufficiency,and what about the public effect considering the large amounts of tritium cycling in fusion reactor.
