Cynomorium songaricum is the stem of C.songarium Rupr., which is widely distributed in the northwestern area of China.It has been used as tonics and treatment of kidney disorders in traditional Chinese medicine.Recently, modem research of pharmacology and clinical medicine showed that C.songarium has many physiological activities, such as immunologic enhancement, anti-ageing, free radicals scavenging, platelet aggregation suppression, anti-anoxia, and its extraction has inhibitory effects on Human Immunodeficiency Virus(HIV).So, more and more researchers have been attracted to study C.songarium.While, as a herbal medicine, it contains many components and its active components content will vary owing to different growing conditions including climate, humidity, soil, etc.Therefore, quality control of C.songarium is important and it is necessary to develop a simple, rapid and reliable method to distinguish C.songarium from different places.
