　　Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) has high permeability towards many organic compounds owing to its flexible polymeric chain backbone and hydrophobicity.Various analytical techniques such as SPME, stir bar sorptive extraction, membrane extraction with a sorbent interface, and recently capillary extraction, use these interesting features of PDMS for sample preparation/preconcentration and subsequent chromatographic analysis.PDMS is also one of the most widely used stationary phases in gas chromatography.
