The major objective of this research was to develop advanced numeric interface mod els that are capable of realistically describing the actual behavior of various interfaces between two adjacent layers in airport pavement structures, particularly the interfaces between surface and base layers. Literature on pavement interface problems and related theories were reviewed. A few axisymmetric finite element interface models were developed with different mesh schemes. Computations showed good accuracy and reliability of the axisymmetric FEM model. Post-processing features were potentially enhanced using a Visual Basic filter and an MS Access database so that the response curves could be plotted along any path automatically. A detailed analysis of pavement responses for different interface conditions was carried out using the developed axisymmetric model. Pavement interface behavior was depicted graphically with a large amount of plots.
