Active fiber composites (AFC) possess very good flexibility and toughness as well as sensing and actuating capabilities. They have been used in many applications, such as suppression of structural vibration and structural health monitoring.AFC must be adhered smoothly on the surface of the host structure to perform its functions.Edge debonding in adhesive layer is mainly caused by interfacial shear stress at the free edges due to mismatch of axial strains between bonded materials.Delamination between AFC patch and the host structure should be prevented and routinely examined during its service life.
