  Matching the diameter of the pore aperture of microporous materials with the critical dimensions of gas molecules might lead to higher separation factors.Selectivity can be reached by differences in strength of adsorption or by steric hindrance of the molecule to be adsorbed in the pore system.Considering the critical diameters of CO2/CH4 and light paraffins/olefins such as propane/propene and unsaturated linear C4 hydrocarbons,DD3R with eight-ring windows meet these requirements.In fact our early studies reveal that the eight-ring windows of DD3R are accessible to propylene,buta-1,3-diene,and trans-but-2-ene molecules while they exclude propane,but-1-ene,and cis-but-2-ene molecules,implying that DD3R might be effective as an adsorbent for the separation of propene/propane and unsaturated linear C4 hydrocarbon mixtures [1-3].Additionally,DD3R has an excellent separation performance for CO2/CH4 mixtures [4].Compared with other zeolites,the all-silica DD3R,a highly hydrophobic and inert adsorbent,which is stable up to high temperatures,displays a good prospect for application in the aforementioned adsorption-based separation processes.However,the applications of DD3R are largely limited to its difficulty in synthesis.To produce DD3R crystals using the strategies developed by Gies [5] and den Exter et al.[6] needed 48 d.Although Gascon et al.[7] reduced the synthesis time from 48 to 2 d by adding DD3R seeds,the synthesis was hardly reproducible,and the DD3R phase was contaminated with some undesired byproducts such as Sigma-2,leading to the low productivity.Recently,a fluoride route was introduced into DD3R synthesis,reducing the synthesis time to 1 d,but the synthesized crystals were not uniform in shape and size,and more seriously,the DD3R phase was not pure [8].
