In this research,we tried to recrystallize adefovir dipivoxil particles by the rapid expansion of supercritical solutions (RESS) process in order to apply them to DDS (Drug Delivery System) as the form of microparticles formulated with polymers.One of the green solvent,supercritical carbon dioxide was selected as a solvent.The effect of process parameters such as extraction temperature and pressure,pre-expansion temperature,spray distance,and nozzle configuration on the particles size of adefovir dipivoxil were evaluated and found to have influenced the size.Increasing the extraction temperature was shown to cause the adefovir dipivoxil particle size to also increase.Meanwhile,the particle size decreased with increasing extraction pressure.The particle size of adefovir dipivoxil was found to have increased with increasing pre-expansion temperature.An increase in the spray distance (8-32cm) resulted in a decrease in the average size of particles (from 4.54 to 1.54ìm).The effect of the nozzle internal diameter on the size and shape of the precipitated particles was examined under different nozzle internal diameters (152-762ìm).When the internal nozzle diameter size was larger,the particle size did not show significant change.Precipitated adefovir dipivoxil particles were analyzed by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy),XRD (X-ray diffraction),DSC (Differential scanning calorimetry) and FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared) spectra.
