I was introduced to embryonic stem cells in 1980 as an undergraduate.Martin Evans my undergraduate project advisor asked me to isolate embryonic stem [ES] cells and confirm that these had been derived from mouse embryos1.I progressed to a graduate student in the Evans laboratory and working closely with my colleague Elizabeth Robertson we demonstrated that cultured embryonic stem cells could contribute to the germ line of chimaeric mice2.
