Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginal complaints among women of childbearing potential.BV is a polymicrobial syndrome characterized by a shift of the physiological bacterial flora, mainly composed of lactobacilli, to a diverse spectrum of bacteria, among which Gardnerella vaginalis (GV) and the new emergent Atopobium vaginae (AV) are the most important markers.Metronidazole clindamycin and nifuratel are the currently preferred regimens for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis with reported cure rates of 70-96% following 7 days of treatment.In this study, the in vitro susceptibility of Lactobacillus species, GV and AV to nifuratel, metronidazole and clindamycin was investigated.
