There is good evidence that coarctation of the aorta is associated with an upper body vasculopathy that is associated with hypertension and increased vessel wall stiffness.Historically the medium term results of surgical treatment have been good but premature death may occur due to accelerated cerebral and coronary vascular disease and aortic and cerebral aneurysm rupture.We have investigated the results of surgical and stent therapy in our centre in the hope that we can identify factors associated with these long term complications.
