The study of rigidity phenomenon for group actions is one of the central themes in dynamics. There is a growing interest in recent years for "irreducible" higher rank algebraic actions. In contrast to rank one actions(flow or diffeomorphism),rigidity results are available for a large class of algebraic actions. In the first part of the talk, basic notations and the background for the whole project will be introduced. Then the main results, current tools, open questions and future directions will be presented.
