Background.Acute renal failure (ARF) frequently occurs in hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) caused by Hantaan virus (HNTV)infection.Since severe ARF is the major cause of clinical death in HFRS,it is important to find a better marker that can indicate the renal injury in HFRS patients.The traditional clinical indicators,which include serum creatinine,creatinine clearance or the combination of both,have several limits.Recently cystatin C is considered as a useful marker to evaluate the renal function.
