Plant sucrose transporter is critical for sucrose across the plasma membrane, and it mediates the active distribution of sucrose in the plant growth and development processes.Rice sucrose transporter gene 1 (OsSUT1) was firstly isolated in monocots, and it encodes a functional transporter protein that may be essential for sucrose transport during the seed germination and the grain filling. To throughly elucidate the physiological function of OsSUT 1 in the developing spikelets of rice, the expression mechanism and localization of OsSUT1 were identified. The expression of OsSUT1 was recognized in the caryopses at the cellularization and ripping stages.Furthermore,OsSUT1 mRNA was distinctly detected by in situ localization in the outer epidermis of the endosperm and the parenchyma sounding the dorsal vein strand of caryopsis. With the decreasing of sugar content in the developing caryopses, the expression levels of OsSUT 1 increased gradually.
