Objective: The attentional blink phenomenon results from a transitory impairment of attention that can occur during rapid serial stimulus presentation. The objective of this study was to explore the feasibility and efficacy of short-term meditation and game training on attentional blink.Furthermore,we want to explore whether the effects differed between genders. Methods: In Experiment 1,we randomly assigned 75 healthy college students to 4 days(20min/day)of the following:(1)meditation,(2)game training,or(3)the control intervention. After that, all participants performed the attentional blink test.In Experiment 2,we conducted a 3(group: meditation, game,or control condition)× 2(gender: male,or female)× 6(lag: 1-5,7)design,and recruited totally 150 healthy college students to test whether meditation and game training effects differed between genders. Results: In Experiment 1,group main effect and lag main effect were found.Further analysis showed accuracy of meditation group in the attentional blink was higher than game group and the control group. In Experiment 2,sex main effect, lag main effect, and group × lag interaction were found.Further analysis showed meditation group have significantly higher accuracy than game group in attentional blink among female, while game group have significant higher accuracy than control group among male. Conclusion: Both meditation and game training are beneficial to improve attention ability, and the effects differ between genders.Specifically, meditation training is more suitable for female, while game training is more suitable for male.
