　　A new α-stereoselective D-xylopyranosylation approach has been developed employing 4- O-(2-pyridinecarbonyl) substituted xylopyranosyl ethyl thioglycosides as donors. The method permits a wide range of carbohydrate acceptor substrates to be used; the glycosylation selectivity is α only.
