About 20％ of patients with Kaposis sarcoma (KS) develop first KS lesions in the oral cavity, and up to 80％ of patients eventually develop oral and cutaneous KS simultaneously.The oral cavity is also a major target for acute KSHV infection and a reservoir of latent KSHV.It is not known if the unique oral microenvironment plays a role in promoting KSHV replication and development of oral KS.In this study, we investigate the effects of pathocenic oral bacteria on KSHV replication.
