In order to investigate the mechanism of clay exited in aggregates on the decreasing of polycarboxylate (PC)s water reduction effect, the dispersal effects of PC on clay and cement were compared, and the influence of the dosage of clay and the adding order of clay and PC on the slump flow of cement paste were also studied. The results showed that PC had no dispersal effect on clay. With the dosage increased of clay, the slump flow of paste reduced, and it could not be improved significantly by the dosage increase of PC.The adding order of PC and clay added into the cement paste could remarkably influence its workability, if PC were added into the paste earlier than clay, the addition of clay had only a little impaction on its workability.Otherwise, it could be obviously effected by the addition of clay if PC were added into the paste later than clay. The kind of electric charge carried on the surface of cement and clay particles is different in the paste, so the interaction of different particles would be inevitable, and the interaction would decreased the adsorption capacity of cement particles on PC moleculars, it is the main reason of the decreasing of polycarboxylates water reduction caused by clay exited in aggregates.
