Iron metabolism disturbance might be one of initial causes leading to the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN) of Parkinsons disease (PD).In the recent 10 years, we aim to elucidate how iron is aberrantly deposited in the SN of PD and whether this iron imbalance might be potential therapeutic targets.The results showed that iron importers were up-regulated and iron exporters were down-regulated in PD models.
