Spacecraft contamination has long been a subject of study in the rarefied gas dynamics community.Professor Mikhail Ivanov coined the term “a spacecraft’s own ambient environment” to describe the effects of natural and satellite driven processes to better describe the conditions encountered by spacecraft in orbit.
