A novel modification approach for polylactide(PLA) composite was used. The novel composites were prepared with methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) by a torque rheometer and the samples were compression molded successfully.A series of composites was studied with various amounts of poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) from 0 to 40wt%.Tensile test results demonstrated that the elongation at break of the MDI based PLA/PBS composites increased greatly compared with PLA/PBS, PLA and PBS.The elongation at break of MDI based PLA/PBS increased to 290% with addition 40wt% PBS, which is unavailable for PBS without MDI.Infrared spectroscopy (IR) test indicated the MDI based composite showed new urethane bond among different components.
