　　We demonstrate novel multicolor temperature indicating and security technologies based on Yb/Ln-doped (Ln=Ho, Tm) NaYF4 nanowires and NaGdF4 ultrasmall nanoparticles.The temperature-dependent spectroscopic properties of NaYF4∶Yb3+, Ln3+ nanowires exhibited a normal thermal quenching behavior.
