The conventional wisdom implies that either metal or organocatalysts are basically used alone to promote fundamentally different reactions in asymmetric catalytic processes.1 In 2001,our group first introduced a concept of the combined use of organocatalyst and transition metal to synergistically catalyze an enantioselective allylic alkylation.2 In recent years,we have successfully created several metal/organo hybrid catalyst systems,3 which enabled a diverse range of new enantioselective transformations by virtue of cooperative activation and relay catalytic strategies.Herein,we will report some typical examples concerning organocatalysis combined with metal catalysis to demonstrate that this concept turns out to be a generic strategy that is able to explosively create new chemistry (Figure 1).
