  Major research efforts have been devoted to the discovery and development of compounds that inhibit the protein-protein interaction between HIF-1α and the von Hippel-Lindau protein (pVHL),the substrate recognition subunit of an E3 ligase,and an important target in cancer,chronic anemia,and ischemia.It is particularly urgent to discover more inhibitors because only one class of compounds are available to interdict the HIF-1 α/pVHL interaction currently.
