Soiiless culture systems (SCS) could be used in asparagus cultivation to obtain early yield, in counter season, for premium price selling, increase out-of-season supply, reduce land utilization for the crop, and limit pest diseases.Forcing period may occur in heated greenhouses for rapid sprouting, while part of the growing season of the fern may occur out of the greenhouse, from spring to late summer, freeing indoor space for other crops.SCS in containers (460x265x245mm) were studied for four years in three crop cycles testing substrates (local soil or substrates based on peat mixed with different amounts of perlite, sand, vermiculite), plants per containers (2 vs 3), fertilization regime (weekly or biweekly) starting forcing season in a heated greenhouse (late fall or winter) cultivars (Eros, Grolim, Gijnlim, Violetto dAlbenga).
