In Australia there are a number of gold deposits, such as the Victorian Deep Leads, which have favourable characteristics for in-situ leaching.Past efforts to extract the gold using cyanide solution mining have not been successful due to environmental issues and technological difficulties. Therefore research has been undertaken to develop non-cyanide in-situ leaching technologies. Two different lixiviant systems have been trialed in this work: 1) the tri-iodide system; and 2) thiosulfate systems with ferric based oxidants utilising either oxalate or EDTA.
