Strigolactone hormones and karrikin smoke signals are both butenolides and in Arabidopsis both require the same F-box protein (MAX2) and an α/β-hydrolase protein (D 14 or KAI2) for activity.However they are distinguished by D14 and KAI2 and have different biological activities.
