Completion of modern suspension bridges not only fills the blank of Chinese long span bridges, but also puts forward the new and enormous challenges of safety assessment and life-circle management for them.Main steel components of long span suspension bridges are sensitive to external environmental aggression because of its unique layout system in a high stress state. After its open to traffic, degradation and damage of their components appear in suspension bridges, which cause the reduction of bearing capacity and reliability. This paper provides a framework of maintenance strategies for managing and maintaining the structural performance of suspension bridges in its design time in order to rationalize maintenance actions economically and effectively.Maintenance strategies of the hangers are proposed.Multi-scale time-dependent model are put forward to consider corrosion effect for the main cable and closed box steel girder.Based on the model, safety assessment and lifecircle management for main components of a steel suspension bridge, such as main cables and close box steel girder, are proposed in this paper.
