  关于small RNA协调原核生物和真核生物的基因表达的复杂的网络研究已经呈现爆炸性成长,遗传信息由DNA到RNA再到蛋白质的过程的中心思想(Central dogma)已为一般分子生物学的遗传定律,然而small RNA的发现意外的颠覆的这个中心思想,small RNA利用与标靶mRNA通过碱基配对的互补性,能够完成一些调控回路以及交互作用。
