The reduction of esters to the corresponding alcohols is one of the most important fundamental chemical transformations.Compared with traditional procedures using stoichiometric metal hydride reagents, such as LiA1H4 and NaBH4, the catalytic hydrogenation of esters to alcohols is an attractive green process.
