Polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) is one of the mostly investigated and applied organic beaded polymer supports for ion chromatographic stationary phases. In contrast to silica-based column packings, the materials based on PS-DVB have a much higher stability in extreme pH conditions.Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with their high thermal and mechanical stability, high surface area avilable for chemical interactions have played an important role in analytical chemistry. In our study, PS-DVB beads were quaternized by a multi-step synthesis. The basic condensation polymerization chemistry depended on methylamine and 1,4-Butanediol diglycidyl ether as monomers to build a branching polymer that had quaternary ammonium anion exchanger sites. The anion-exchange capacity of stationary phase could be controlled by modifying with different numbers of bonded polymer layers.Columns with a large range of anion-exchange capacities, using the obtained stationary phases, have been prepared to separate conventional inorganic anions.
