The Ten Commandments of lab design:They must be:1.Interactive and collaborative; 2.Multidisciplinary; 3.Happy; 4.Efficient; 5.Energy smart;6. Comfortable ; 7. Attractive ; 8. Flexible ; 9. Functional ; 10. Safe.The hypothesis is that fine design can have a positive impact on research output.Budgets,experimental dangers,program complexity, program physical demands, program change, personnel management, recruiting, land use,local politics,institutional identity are many of the factors that affect the facility architecture.The inverse is true as well.Managing the design process to develop excellent research facilities takes many years of practice,a good understanding of the scientific process and knowing what researchers need and thrive on.
