Pillar[5]arene has attracted much attention as a new member of macrocycles for its unique symmetrical pillar architecture.Comparing with other basket-shaped structure of meta-bridged calixarenes, its highly symmetrical and rigid structure makes it a better candidate for selective binding to guests.Unlike cucurbiturils and cyclodextrins, pillar[5]arenes are mostly soluble in organic solvents, which limits its application in aqueous media.
