Coal mine methane is not only a greenhouse gas but also a wasted energy resource if not utilised.Approximately 70% of all coal mining related emissions are from underground ventilation air.More than 10 billion m3 methane is released per year in Chinese coal mines, VAM accounts to 91%, equal to 90 million tones CO2 or more.Hence, research and development on mine methane utilization should focus on methane emitted in ventilation air.To develop more efficient, cost effective technology for the utilization of mine VAM, this paper introduces the VAM catalytic combustion performance in a 1000m3/h reverse flow reactor using structured catalyst.
