Object: The goal of this experiment is to observe the influence of acupuncture reinforcing and reducing methods on distant skin temperature. Methods: 19 health volunteers (mean age 25.95±1.55 years old) were enrolled into experiment and accepted 4 kinds of stimulations on S J5.Using FLIR I 7 infrared thermal imager, observed the skin temperature of the homolateral back of the hand at before acupuncture, after needle inserting, after needling manipulation, after needle or electric heating taking off and after rest, and compared with blank and stable, persistent electric heating stimulation. Results: After acupuncturing and needling manipulations, the back of hand temperature both BF and XF stimulations raised. But temperature of BF continues to decline after needle taking off, and that of XF was the opposite. The change of temperature was different from other control stimulations. Conclusion: Acupuncture S J5 could influence the distant skin temperature. But it was different with the classic theories, reinforcing method reduced the temperature, and instead, reducing method raised the temperature.
