The increasing demand for energy and growing concern about air pollution and global warming has stimulated intense research on energy storage and conversion from alternative energy sources. Electrochemical capacitors, also called supercapacitors, are regarded as a promising candidate for energy storage because of their outstanding characteristics, such as high power density, long cyclic performance and fast recharge capability. Due to the fast reversible faradic redox reactions, compared with electrical double-layer capacitors (EDLCs), pseudocapacitors usually present larger energy density than EDLCs. Transition metal oxides and hydroxides are frequently used as electrode materials of pseudocapacitors for their excellent electrochemical properties.
