This study aimed to improve our understanding of the genetic information of the Chinese bay scallop (Argopenten irradians irradians), one of the most important mariculture shellfish in China. One common culture stock and two generations of two new strains of bay scallop were used. The two new strains were developed from a selective breeding program to improve performance in commercial traits. In total, six populations were examined at ten polymorphic microsatellite loci to assess the level of allelic diversity, heterozygosity, and genetic variation among the populations. All populations showed restricted genetic diversity. The mean number of alleles per locus ranged from 3.10-3.50, and 41 different alleles were found over all the loci.
