Selective breeding is widely used to improve the growth traits in aquatic animals.In the Japanese scallop Patinopecten yessoensis Jay, a selective breeding program for fast growing seed was started in 2003.In the first generation, a total number of 213 full-sib families were constructed in 2006 and 2007.Through family selection and within family selection, the second generation was constructed in 2009.Growth traits, shell length (SL), shell height (SH),shell width (SW) and body weight (BW) had been measured in the growing stage of the two generations.At harvest of the first generation, economic important meat weight traits, fresh meat weight (FMW) and adductor muscle weight (AMW) were added into the measured traits.
