Most mangrove live in the unfriendlyenvironment with fluctuating tidal and saline area. Therefore, these plants are considered to be rich sources of useful products.Acanthus xiamenensisis not only a gregarious shrub, commonlyfound with mangroves along the coastal regions but alsohas received considerable attention due to its wide range of secondary metabolitesThe aim of the research was toscreen endophytic fungifor activities against microorganismsfrom the leaves ofAcanthus xiamenensis. The indicator organisms were 3 bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923,Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633,and Escherichia coli ATCC 25922,and two yeasts, namely,Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans.Of the fungal isolatesshowed antimicrobial activity against at least one of the test strains by the agar well diffusion method.Screening of endophytic fungi from Acanthusxiamenensisfor antimicrobial activities will serve as agood basis for discovering new antibiotic agents.
