The new generation hydro-cracking and hydro-desulfurization reactors are usually made of the 2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V steel. After austenization at 940℃ of the hot-rolled sample, the study show that the microstructures of the steel after water quenched to 750℃ and then air cooling to room temperature were composed of granular bainite and some short rod carbides. It can be found that the granular bainite consists of irregular equiaxed or wide lath bainitic ferrite matrix, Martensite-Austenite (M-A) island constituents.Such great difference between the morphology of two type of granular bainite sufficiently indicates that their formation mechanisms are quite different. Many short rods precipitated in the wide ferrite laths and distributed parallel to the lath boundaries and its maybe a result that the carbon supersaturation in the bainitic lath was bigger than the equiaxed bainitic ferrite matrix.
