Daytime Running lamps (DRL) with light guide styling have become recently more popular.Although light guide solutions appear not only in forward lighting system but also in rear combination lamps, market penetration is still limited.They appear mainly in the middle-class or high-class car categories.The major reasons involve constrains in optical design, light guide manufacturing and system cost.In this article, we will present a reference design for DRL based on a light guide solution.In particular, the design will introduce an approach to solve above issues.On the optical side, discussion will locus on favorable design of a suitable in-coupling TIR lens for good system efficiency, and prism adjustment to generate desired uniformity.On the system side.suitable LED with good reliability will be proposed.
