Background Carbohydrate-deficient Transferrin (CDT) is currently the one of most specific alcohol biomarker.Due to the high prevalence of chronic alcohol abuse in many countries,CDT plays an important role in the areas of traffic, clinical, and forensic medicine.CDT levels have rarely been determined in the Chinese population. This study established a reference range and the cut-off for Chinese, and evaluated the rate of genetic transferrin variants. We also studied the relationship between CDT results and the alcohol consumption and evaluated the analytic performance of the CDT capillary zone electrophoresis system.
