We develop a mathematical model of chronic myeloid leukemia(CML)and the immune system,and apply it to patient data collected throughout therapy.Many patients who respond well to therapy exhibit a biphasic exponential decline in cancer load,followed by a period of damped oscillations.Our data and modeling results suggest that a patient's immune system plays a significant role in these dynamics and that the oscillations may represent an immune response to CML.
