Poromechanics studies the interactions between fluid motion and deformation in porous media. It has important applications including consolidation, subsidence due to fluid withdrawal, and hydraulic fracturing. Many discretizations and solver schemes have been developed for poromechanics but the design of effective simulation techniques for handling the coupling between fluid motion and solid deformation is still a challenging task.
